The foundation of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (GJWHF) was deeply inspired by the vision and spirit of Munyir Simone Butler-Thomas, a woman whose life was dedicated to empowerment, resilience, and community.
In 2015, Lou met Munyir in a restaurant in Raleigh, NC, during what could have been a tense moment. Instead, Munyir’s kindness and compassion turned it into a life-changing encounter. With warmth and understanding, she intervened during a situation involving Lou’s then three-year-old niece, de-escalating it with grace. As they talked, Munyir shared her vision for a social club an organization where women could uplift one another, serve their communities, and empower children and women to embrace self-love and confidence. Her passion left a lasting impression on Lou, sparking a connection that would shape the future.

Munyir was the founder of Jus Us Leides, a group of women united by their commitment to philanthropy and sisterhood. The name was inspired by the Hawaiian “lei,” a symbol of unity and love. Under her leadership, the group flourished, creating a strong network of women dedicated to making a difference. From fashion shows and trunk-or-treats to Easter egg hunts, food drives, and girl trips, the impact of Jus Us Leides was profound, fostering lasting memories and community bonds. However, tragedy struck on August 8, 2015, when Munyir’s baby son was senselessly taken from this world, shot in cold blood while returning home from a neighbor’s party. The loss was devastating, yet Munyir remained steadfast, carrying on despite the immense grief. As the years passed, she faced her own health battles, courageously fighting lupus and, later, brain cancer. Through it all, she remained a pillar of strength, never once complaining or losing her sense of purpose.
